Privacy Policy

This policy covers the cmux Mochi applications — a macOS app and an iPhone/iPad companion — distributed as personal builds of a public fork of the open-source cmux project by Manaflow. The apps are operated by Mochi ("we") for personal use and invited testing, not as a commercial service. This policy applies to builds distributed from this fork; upstream cmux has its own privacy policy.
The short version: your terminal content stays on your own devices, nothing is sold or shared for marketing, and the little that does leave your machine exists to keep the apps working.
what stays on your devices
Terminal sessions, scrollback, commands, files, and agent conversations live on your Mac. When the iPhone/iPad app is paired with a Mac, terminal content travels between your own devices over encrypted connections; we do not run servers that store your terminal content.
what the apps may send
- Crash reports and diagnostics — error logs, stack traces, device model, and OS version, sent to our Sentry project when something breaks, used only to fix it.
- Update checks (macOS) — the macOS app checks a GitHub-hosted Sparkle feed for new builds, which involves sending the app and OS version as part of an ordinary web request to GitHub. The iOS app updates through TestFlight and the App Store instead.
- Sign-in — if you sign in, authentication is handled through Stack Auth and the sign-in provider you choose, which share your email address and an account identifier with the app.
- Pairing metadata — pairing the mobile app with a Mac processes device names, identifiers, and connection metadata needed to link your devices to your account.
- Push notifications (iOS) — an Apple Push Notification service token, only if you turn notifications on.
- Product analytics — the apps inherit upstream cmux's telemetry code, so reliability and feature-usage events (such as launch, sign-in status, and pairing outcomes) may be reported as they are in upstream cmux.

- Sentry — crash and error reporting.
- GitHub — hosts the fork's source, releases, and macOS update feed.
- Sparkle — the macOS auto-update framework.
- Stack Auth, with Apple, Google, or GitHub sign-in — authentication and account management.
- Apple — TestFlight distribution, App Store updates, and push notifications, under Apple's own terms.
- Ghostty / libghostty — the terminal-rendering engine, which runs entirely on your device.
Each of these has its own privacy policy that applies to its processing.
what we don't do
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share personal information for marketing. There is no advertising. Diagnostics are kept only as long as they are useful for fixing the problem they describe.
your rights
You can ask what data exists about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to its processing — laws like the GDPR and CCPA may grant these rights formally, and we honor them informally regardless. Write to mochiexists528@gmail.com.

The apps are not directed at anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears here with an updated date. Given the size of the audience, you will probably hear about it directly too.
